The focus of Dr. Hanan AboJabel’s research is on understanding psychosocial aspects related to aging and the impact of culture on those aspects.
More specifically, at the present time, Dr. AboJabel is examining issues related to dementia care with a focus on understanding the perceptions of several stakeholders (i.e., older people, family caregivers, professionals in the field, and laypeople).
These issues include, for example, the delivery of care to older people with dementia via intelligent technology (e.g., robots); the consequences of providing care for older people with dementia on family caregivers, such as caregiver burden, ambivalent feelings and stigma; and factors that may mitigate these consequences, such as family support and coping strategies.
Dr. AboJabel emphasizes in her research the role of culture in shaping the attitudes and experiences of such stakeholders.
Finally, Dr. AboJabel combines quantitative (i.e., surveys) and qualitative (i.e., interviews and focus groups) research methods in her work.
